Rishikesh/Haridwar to Joshimath/Govindghat

Drive through four sacred confluences—Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, and Nandprayag—en route to Joshimath/Pipalkoti along the Alaknanda River.

The journey to the mystical Valley of Flowers begins early in the morning as the group assembles at the designated pickup point around 06:30 AM, typically Natraj Chowk or Tapovan Chowk in Rishikesh. As you settle into your seats and begin your journey through the heart of the Garhwal Himalayas, the scenic beauty around you unfolds with every turn. You’ll travel along the Badrinath Highway, a route filled with spiritual significance and breathtaking views. One of the highlights of this journey is witnessing the sacred confluences of the Ganga River – Devprayag, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi merge to form the Ganga; Rudraprayag, where Mandakini joins Alaknanda; Karnaprayag, the meeting point of Alaknanda and Pindar rivers; and Nandprayag, where Nandakini and Alaknanda converge. Each of these spots is a pilgrimage site in itself. As you drive deeper into the mountains, the Alaknanda River keeps you company, flowing fiercely on your left or right, offering mesmerizing views, especially at the turns and valleys. There will be short breaks for breakfast and lunch en route, and opportunities to capture some wonderful photographs. The changing landscape—from dense green forests and terraced fields to alpine stretches—marks your gradual ascent into the higher Himalayas. By late afternoon or early evening, you’ll arrive at your stay in either Joshimath or Pipalkoti, depending on accommodation availability. Joshimath is a historic town, known as the winter seat of Lord Badrinath, and surrounded by majestic peaks. Pipalkoti, a quieter alternative, offers tranquil vibes and crisp mountain air. Upon arrival, check into your hotel, freshen up, and enjoy a wholesome dinner. A short orientation will follow, preparing you for the trekking days ahead. After a long but scenic drive filled with spiritual spots and Himalayan beauty, this first day sets the tone for the adventure to come. Overnight stay in Joshimath or Pipalkoti.

Joshimath/Pipalkoti to Pulna | Trek to Ghangaria

Scenic trek from Pulna to Ghangaria alongside Pushpawati River, through forests, waterfalls, and charming Himalayan dhabas.

After a nourishing breakfast, the day begins with an informative briefing session by your trek leader, covering safety protocols, trekking tips, and an overview of the trail ahead. Soon after, you’ll board the vehicle for a short but scenic 22-kilometer drive from Joshimath/Pipalkoti to Pulna, the last motorable village before the trek begins. Nestled in the Govindghat region, Pulna serves as the official starting point of your Valley of Flowers adventure. The 9-kilometer trek from Pulna to Ghangaria is a steady uphill climb, manageable yet slightly challenging for first-time trekkers. The trail winds through lush green forest, across wooden bridges, and alongside the crystal-clear Pushpawati River. The soothing sound of the river and the occasional bird call provide a refreshing soundtrack to your journey. Small dhabas and tea stalls are spaced out along the way, offering refreshments and a chance to rest and hydrate. You’ll find locals and fellow trekkers on the same route, creating a vibrant and motivating atmosphere. As you ascend, the trail occasionally opens up to breathtaking views of snow-clad peaks and valleys, while at other times, it narrows into shaded forest paths that feel serene and isolated. The changing terrain, from stone-paved paths to natural dirt trails, keeps the experience dynamic. Around the halfway mark, you'll pass through Bhyundar Village and a few waterfalls, perfect for short breaks and photos. By late afternoon, you’ll reach the alpine settlement of Ghangaria, located at an elevation of 9,800 feet. This quaint little village nestled in the lap of the Himalayas is your base for exploring the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. It offers basic yet comfortable lodging and dining facilities. After checking into your guesthouse or hotel, enjoy a hot dinner and relax. Use this evening to acclimatize, explore the local area, and prepare for the following day’s magical journey into the Valley of Flowers.

Ghangaria to Valley of Flowers and back to Ghangaria

Witness the UNESCO-listed Valley of Flowers in full bloom—home to 300+ species of alpine flora, with snow peaks and a glacier as your backdrop.

Today marks one of the most exciting days of your trek—the much-anticipated visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Valley of Flowers. After a hearty breakfast in Ghangaria, you’ll begin your journey towards this high-altitude Himalayan wonder, situated at an altitude of approximately 11,500 feet. The trek begins with a gradual climb through a forest path, and shortly after, you’ll arrive at the entrance gate of the Valley where you’ll obtain your entry permit. From the gate, the trail transforms into a magical route flanked by lush greenery, wooden bridges, waterfalls, and floral carpets. The valley is nestled in the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve and is home to over 300 species of alpine flowers including blue poppies, daisies, anemones, and the elusive Brahma Kamal. As you walk deeper into the valley, you’ll be surrounded by an explosion of colors with flowers blooming on either side of the trail. The aroma of wild herbs and the buzz of bees enhance the immersive experience. Snow-covered peaks like Ratban Parbat and Nar Parbat stand tall in the backdrop, making it feel like you’ve stepped into a dream. The terrain is mostly flat with some gradual inclines, making it a pleasant hike. You’ll cover approximately 10 kilometers in total, exploring different corners of the valley. At the far end, the valley tapers off into a glacier, providing a stunning contrast of snow and flowers. Since eating and camping are prohibited within the protected area, you’ll spend a few hours soaking in the beauty, meditating, taking photos, and admiring rare flora before retracing your steps. After an enriching exploration of the valley, you’ll return to Ghangaria by late afternoon. Enjoy a warm meal and reflect on the day’s stunning experience. Most trekkers describe this day as the highlight of their journey—an unforgettable encounter with nature at its purest.

Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahi | Back to Ghangaria

Trek to Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara at 15,200 ft, experience spiritual peace, and return to Ghangaria for the night.

After an early breakfast, we embark on one of the most spiritually and physically significant parts of our journey — the trek to Hemkund Sahib, the world’s highest Gurudwara situated at an altitude of 15,200 ft. The ascent is steep and demanding, gaining approximately 4,000 feet in elevation over a distance of 7 kilometers. The path is stone-paved and offers breathtaking views of the valley below. As you climb, the cool air gets thinner, and you might notice the effort of each step more intensely. Despite the challenges, the trail is lined with small stalls selling refreshments, and porters and mules are available to help carry your load if needed. On reaching Hemkund Sahib, you are welcomed by a serene and powerful spiritual atmosphere. The Gurudwara sits beside a glacial lake, Hemkund Sarovar, surrounded by snow-capped peaks including the revered Saptarishi range. Here, you can take part in the community prayers and enjoy the simplicity and warmth of langar – hot chai and khichdi — which offers a deep sense of comfort at such a high altitude. After spending a peaceful and reflective time at the site, we will begin our descent back to Ghangaria. The descent, although easier, still demands caution due to the steep gradient. We will arrive back in Ghangaria by evening, where we will have dinner and rest overnight at our lodging.

Ghangaria to Pulna| Drive to Joshimath/Pipalkoti (22 KMS, 1 HOUR DRIVE)

Descend to Pulna and drive back to Joshimath/Pipalkoti for overnight stay.

We start the day early with tea and breakfast in Ghangaria before commencing our descent to Pulna. This downhill trek spans 9 kilometers and is significantly easier compared to the uphill segments tackled earlier. The trail gently winds through forests and along the river, offering plenty of scenic views that you might not have noticed on the way up. As you retrace your steps, the sense of accomplishment begins to set in, and the gradual return to lower altitudes makes breathing easier. The familiar trail, dotted with dhabas and shops, feels more comforting this time around. On reaching Pulna, vehicles will be ready to drive us back to Joshimath or Pipalkoti — a scenic drive of about 22 kilometers taking roughly one hour. Upon arrival, we’ll check into our designated hotel where hot food and comfortable accommodations await. The evening is free for relaxation, sharing stories with fellow trekkers, or simply enjoying the peaceful mountain setting. We conclude the day with dinner and a well-earned rest.

Joshimath/Pipalkoti to Rishikesh

Return journey to Rishikesh via the scenic Alaknanda valley; end of tour.

After enjoying a final morning tea in the serene setting of Joshimath or Pipalkoti, we pack our belongings and prepare to head back to Rishikesh. The drive is a long but picturesque one, spanning 253 kilometers and taking approximately 8 hours. We will retrace our journey along the Alaknanda River, passing through the holy confluences of Nandprayag, Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag, and Devprayag — each a sacred merging of rivers that contributes to the mighty Ganges. The winding roads, flanked by mountains and lush greenery, offer a last glimpse of the Himalayas that have been our home for the past few days. It’s a time to reflect on the spiritual and natural experiences of the trek — from the colorful meadows of the Valley of Flowers to the divine tranquility of Hemkund Sahib. By evening, we reach Rishikesh, where the group disbands with fond memories, newfound friendships, and a deep sense of accomplishment. This marks the official end of the Valley of Flowers adventure.
